Patients often ask how often they should get adjusted during pregnancy. There are many benefits to getting adjusted regularly during your pregnancy, especially since every week your body is changing. During my pregnancy, I got adjusted at least once a week.
I recommend that my patients get adjusted once a week during the majority of their pregnancy, with an increase to twice a week during the final weeks of the third trimester. During your pregnancy, your ovaries and placenta produce relaxin, a hormone that allows your muscles and ligaments to relax and stretch, which is necessary for pregnancy. However, it also means that you might experience instability around your joints, as your ligaments and muscles aren’t providing the same level of support. This can contribute to pain and discomfort, especially in the sacral area. Because you produce relaxin throughout your pregnancy, you should get adjusted by a Webster certified chiropractor throughout your pregnancy as well.
Why do you need a Webster certified chiropractor? The Webster technique is a specialized adjusting method that reduces SI joint dysfunction and reduces the effects of sacral subluxation. When you correct sacral subluxation, you can improve labor for the mother. A Webster adjustment creates more space, reduces tension, and improves function throughout the pelvic area. This can help your baby move into ideal positioning for birth, reduce pain and discomfort, and improve your labor.
I frequently hear from my patients that they wish they started chiropractic care during their pregnancy sooner and that it made such a difference in their pregnancy. You can begin prenatal chiropractic care early in your pregnancy. You don’t need to wait for the second or third trimesters! I highly recommend weekly prenatal chiropractic care for any woman who is pregnant.
